Mahsa Amini

On 16 September 2022, the 22-year-old Iranian woman Mahsa Amini, died in a hospital in Tehran, Iran, under suspicious circumstances. The Guidance Patrol, the religious morality police of Iran’s government, arrested Amini for allegedly not wearing the hijab in accordance with government standards.

Majid Reza Rahnavard

Majid Reza Rahnavard, on 12 December 2022 was the first person executed in public for charges because of his involvement in the Mahsa Amini protests.

Mona Heydari

In January 2022, 17-year-old Mona Heydari was beheaded by her husband Sajjad Heydari. Mona had been married to her husband since the age of 12 and had given birth to their son when she was only 14.

Romina Ashrafi

In May 2020, Romina Ashrafi was killed by her father because he did not agree with her choice of boyfriend.

Asra Panahi

15 years old Asra Panahi was killed on 12 October 2022 after plainclothes forces stormed the Shahed Girls High School in Ardabil. Officials from the school had attempted to force the students to participate in a pro-government demonstration where they were to sing “Salam Farmandeh”, an ideological song praising Ali Khamenei.

Abolfazl Adinezadeh

Abolfazl Adinezadeh (17) was killed by Iranian security forces in the city of Mashhad. Abolfazl Adinezadeh, skipped school to join anti-government protests on 8 October, but he never returned home.

Nika Shakarami

On 20 September 2022, 16-year-old Iranian girl Nika Shakarami disappeared in Tehran during the 2022 Iranian protests following the death of Mahsa Amini. Ten days later, her family was informed of her passing. She had passed away under mysterious circumstances, possibly as a result of police assault. After her body was identified by her family, they intended to bury her in Khorramabad.

Sahand Nurmohamadzadeh

Sahand Nurmohamadzadeh Sahand, 26, was sentenced to death after being found guilty of “enmity towards God”. He is accused of setting the container on fire and blocking traffic, which he denies.

Hamid Gare-Hasanlou

Hamid Gare-Hasanlou, a 53-year-old radiologist, and his wife Farzaneh were among fifteen people found guilty of “corruption on earth,” a charge linked to the killing of a member of the Basij paramilitary force. The couple was returning home after a protest in Karaj, near Tehran, when they witnessed an attack on a member of the Basij. Their friend, doctor Hamid Hassani, told the BBC that they tried to stop the protesters from beating the man, who died as a result of the attack.

Saman Saidi Yassin

Iranian rapper Saman Saidi Yassin, from the western city of Kermanshah, was also sentenced to death after being found guilty of “enmity against God”. He was arrested in Tehran, accused of setting fire to containers and firing a gun three times, which he denies.

Mahan Marani

Mahan Marani was accused of “enmity against God” and was brought before a Revolutionary Court in Tehran, according to state media on November 3. On October 12, he was accused of carrying a knife at a protest in the capital, stabbing and injuring another person, and setting a motorbike on fire to damage private property. State media reported that although he denied using a weapon or stabbing anyone, he revealed in court that he lit the motorbike on fire.

Milad Ostad-Hashem

Milad Ostad-Hashem, 37, was shot in the back with a live round in Tehran on September 25. His family claims he was killed by Iranian security forces. However, under pressure from security officials, the family continued the story in state media that he was a member of the Basij organization and that he was “killed by protesters.”

Hadis Najafi

Hadis Najafi, a 22-year-old TikToker, recorded a video on her phone on September 21 of herself walking through a demonstration in Karaj, west of Tehran. “When I look back in a few years, I hope I’ll be happy that everything has changed for the better,” she said as darkness fell around her. Security forces killed her almost an hour later, her family said.

Hasti Naroei

Seven-year-old Hasti Naroei was a Baloch. This picture shows her wearing their national costume. On September 30, 2022, she was in Zahedan with her grandmother for the Friday Muslim prayer. Social media images taken that day showed security forces responding to the protest by firing into the crowd. According to local activists, Hastie was shot in the head with a tear gas canister and then suffocated. She was her parents’ only child.

Minoo Majidi

Minoo Majidi (1960 – 20 September 2022) was a 62-year-old Iranian woman who was killed by Iranian authorities during the September 2022 Iranian protests. “If I don’t go out and protest, who will?” Those were Minoo Majidi’s last words to her family before she died. Mina was 62 years old when she was shot by security forces on the streets of Kermanshah in western Iran. According to her daughter, she was killed with more than 178 shotgun pellets. She died in hospital.
